Founder's Message
Education has a tremendous impact on an individual, a household, and a country. It enables people to improve their lives and the lives of their families.
Often in developing countries, problems with education arise from a lack of items that are in abundance elsewhere. I experienced this dilemma first hand as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in the Republic of Kiribati. For over two years, I worked as a teacher and tried to support the educational efforts throughout my site. Many of these efforts were hindered simply because of a lack of books, paper, and writing utensils. Similar to elsewhere in the world, the people of Kiribati strongly value education and see it as a means to lift themselves from their dependence on the land and a vulnerable, subsistence lifestyle.
I founded For Granted to help disadvantaged populations overcome obstacles they face in order to gain the education they desperately want. In recognition of the greater supply of resources in developed countries, For Granted builds links between communities in the United States and in developing countries to facilitate the transfer of needed supplies and funds to support education and related development programs. Through the sharing of surplus resources with those in great need, we can significantly impact educational initiatives and lives.
Sincerely,
David Sokoloff
